West Palm Beach Attractions
There is plenty
to do in Palm Beach County. Whether you want to see a National Historic
Landmark or view Jupiter from atop an authentic lighthouse it is right
here. You could head out to a museum of sports or science or anything
in between. If you are vacationing with the family, the kids might
enjoy a walk through the Palm Beach Zoo or the family could enjoy
America's first drive-through cageless zoo. Enjoy an evening at the
Performing Arts center after a day of fun in the water park. Whatever
you like you are sure to find something that suits you.
Flagler Museum
A
National Historic Landmark, the Flagler Museum features the Gilded
Age estate, Whitehall. Featured in many television programs and
museums, Whitehall was designed in the Beaux-Arts style and the
interior serves as a series of period rooms. Open year round from
Tuesday through Sunday, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New
Year's. Jupiter
Inlet Lighthouse
Completed
in 1861, the Jupiter Point Lighthouse has recently undergonerenovations
returning it to its original color, fire engine red. Placed on the
National Register in 1973, the lighthouse hosts one hour tours Sunday
through Wednesday. A small museum and gift shop are onsite.
Lion Country
Safari
America's
first drive-through cageless zoo, Lion Country Safari providesa
habitat in which many endangered species live and reproduce. Divided
into seven sections, visitors are invited to explore Lake Nakure,
the Great Plains, Kalahari Bushweldt, the Gir Forest, and other
areas represented on the preserve. Open 365 days a year.
Morikami
Museum and Japanese Gardens
Boasting one
of the largest Japanese gardens in the nation, the Morikami features
expansive galleries where various exhibitions of Japanese arts,
crafts, and artifacts are displayed, , the Seishin-an teahouse,
a 225 seat theater offering lectures and performing arts, and a
café serving Japanese and Asian lunches. Open Tuesday through
Sunday.
Norton Museum
of Art
Widely known
for its distinguished permanent collections of European, American,
contemporary art, photography, and Chinese arts, the Norton Museum
of Art lays claim to painting and sculpture by artists such as Monet,
Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, O'Keefe, and many more. The museum offers
special exhibitions, lectures, and educational programs for children
and adults.
Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park
Panthers,
flamingos, macaws, and jaguars are just a few of the animals visitors
can enjoy seeing at the Palm Beach Zoo. More than one hundred exotic
and domestic animals reside here, and new animals from around the
world are introduced on a regular basis. A children's area allows
kids to pet and hold animals while learning about them.
Rapids Water
Park
South
Florida's premier water park, the Rapids features a full day of
water fun. Boasting 22 acres of attractions, the park offers a wave
pool, lazy river, and 16 water slides. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The park operates on a seasonal basis, so plan ahead.
South Florida
Science Museum
With
dozens of hands-on interactive exhibits, a planetarium, and dozens
of aquariums, the South Florida Science Museum brings science alive
for both children and adults. The museum also offers laser shows,
science camps, traveling exhibits, and other special programs.
Sports Immortals
Museum
Celebrating
the accomplishments of famous sports legends, the SportsImmortals
Museum features an interactive museum, the restaurant of champions,
a sports retail store, an interactive arcade, and a 360-degree Immortals
Cinema theatre. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
and Saturdays from11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
SunFest
Florida's
largest music, art, and waterfront festival, Sunfest marks its20th
anniversary. Held annually in West Palm Beach during the first weekend
of May, Sunfest hosts top entertainers and artists promising guests
a wonderful time!
The International
Museum of Cartoon Art
Representing
cartoonists from over 50 countries, The International Museum of
Cartoon Art includes every genre of the art: animation, comic books,
comic strips, gag cartoons, illustration, editorial cartoons, greeting
cards, caricature, graphic novels, sports cartoons, and computer
generated art. The museum also houses a book, film, and video library.
The Raymond
F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts
Presenting
a diverse schedule of world class performing artists from musicals
and modern dance, to opera, classical, jazz, and pop music, The
Kravis Center attracts more than 450,000 people each year. Facilities
include Dreyfoos Hall, the Rinker Playhouse, Cohen Pavilion, and
the Gosman Ampitheatre.
